DDS2GO: Georgia Driver Services Mobile App

Case Background

State of Georgia — Department of Driver Services (DDS) wanted to serve their 8 million+ drivers digitally to reduce the traffic in their Driver Services office. Scope IT was awarded the contract to build the mobile app to cater the needs of these 8 million drivers through DDS 2 GO mobile app. With this app Georgia motorists have the ability to perform 37 capabilities such as license renewal, pay fees, address change, biometric integration, cart management, order an ID card, profile update, obtain driving history, purchase MVR, upload secure ID documents, map integration, skip a step, and issuance receipt.

Implementation Overview

A cloud-based mobile Backend as a Service Layer (MBaaS) was built to supply the business and user data to the mobile applications. This restful service layer consists of many data process components which consume the services from DDS, apply business and security rules, validate user data, capture analytics, and optimize the data for mobile application needs. The usage analytics were captured directly at the mobile device and stored in Google Analytics platform. The technology used was HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap along with Node.JS at the web server layer, and Angular JS for UI rendering.

Results

The app was launched by the State Governor along with the commissioner of the Department of Driver Services. Since the day of launch more than 1.5+ million users use this app on the daily basis to avail driver services capabilities in the State of Georgia.
